Topic > Enzymes Improve the Digestive System - 525

The ideal purpose of the gastrointestinal or digestive system is to take the immense bolus of food made of lipids, carbohydrates and proteins and dissect it into particles small enough to be consumed in the cardiovascular system of the body where the body can distribute the substances necessary for health and progression in the body. The way these food boluses are broken down is through a process called mastication and chemical changes in the gastrointestinal system and its enzymes. Enzymes are also known as proteins and are responsible for responses in the body. Enzymes increase the speed of responses in the body without being eaten up by the body's responses. Proteins or enzymes in the gastrointestinal system result in the transformation of carbohydrates into two different categories of sugars known as monosaccharides and disaccharides, proteins are transformed into amino acids known as pepsin, and lipids are converted into fatty acids and glycerol. All enzymes within the digestive system have very particular roles and functions...
