James Tiberius Kirk is a name that reigns in all entities of space; a fearless leader who travels across galaxies on a mission of peace and conquest. Kirk battles countless species of aliens and encounters numerous walks of life in the Milky Way. Although Captain Kirk is a very pragmatic leader, he is sometimes very boisterous and boastful; you could say he is a modern Narcissus. After reading this description, it occurs to me that James Tiberius Kirk is not a modern Narcissus; however, it occurs to me that the main theme of a former Greek hero who, with a few well-tuned words, could easily fit this description. His name, you ask? Ulysses. If you are familiar with reading about Ulysses, then you are well acquainted with the epic adventures in which Odysseus took part. If you also know the television action series Star Trek, then you also know the heralding adventures of James T. Kirk. If you are lucky enough to know both works then you will already be able to notice the striking similarity between the two heroes. No matter how charismatic they might be, their follies and characteristics were the same. For example, they both had great contempt for their crew. Sure, it doesn't seem that way from what you read or watch, but if that were the case, why did the crew members always die and not themselves? 'd Lost” (Homer 441). This is just one of numerous examples we see throughout Odysseus's Odyssey: crew members are killed by the disbandment or his actions, yet he always has crew members?
