IntroductionDaniel Tomas Egerton and Jose María Velasco were two very important and recognized painters in Mexico during the 19th century. Their contribution as landscape architects has been so recognized that even in the 21st century they continue to be recognized; Although both were widely recognized in Europe and much of America, especially in the United States, one of the two, José María Velasco, was more important to the Mexican people, mainly due to the fact that he was born in Mexico, unlike Daniel Thomas Egerton, born in the United Kingdom. In this work I will talk a little about the lives of these two fascinating artists and how, although their paintings are not very relevant in themselves to know the history of Mexico, they can give us an idea of what the country was like seen from the point of view of Mexico, from the point of view of a Mexican and a foreigner, of course, each from their own perspective. Development Daniel Thomas Egerton and José María Velasco were two very important landscape artists in the history of Mexico, not this regarding their contribution to the country in the heroic context, but it is the one in which we normally talk about historical figures. They were recognized rather for the contribution they made in the artistic environment, for the way they managed to portray different aspects of Mexico, such as its nature, its cities and its architecture through their paintings. The two lived in very different times, which in a way might have influenced their vision of Mexico and what they tried to convey in their paintings, but not the way they painted, as they both had a very similar style. José María Velasco lived in the times of Benito Juárez, Maximiliano, Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada and Porfirio Díaz, ...... middle of paper ...... which seems strange to me given that the church had great power over the government at that time, and had a great influence on the culture and traditions of the Mexican people in an urban environment. What it seems to me that the two painters can help me to know is part of the social structure and the opinion on the identity of the country that each had. This is very important because it shows not only the vision and point of view of a Mexican, but also of a foreigner, this way there is no nationalism involved that could influence the opinion anyone had of what they saw of the country .Works Cited• RAMÌREZ ROJAS, Fausto: Nineteenth-Century Art in Mexico City.
