Topic > Why euthanasia is not the solution - 1144

“Euthanasia is the intentional killing, by act or omission, of a dependent human being for his presumed advantage” (“What is euthanasia ” 2). It is accompanied by cases where patients suffering from intractable medical conditions and waiting for death to be free from their torments and pains ask their doctor to end their lives. Even where relatives ask the doctor to carry out this mission to relieve their patient's pain, especially in cases of prolonged coma and terminal illness: these cases have raised the issue of euthanasia, which has become one of the controversial topics in the world. Euthanasia is illegal in most countries in the world, but “in the Netherlands it has been accepted for over 20 years and a law was passed to regulate it in 2000 and Belgium passed a similar law in 2001 and also in the United States, one state, Oregon, has had a physician-assisted suicide law since 1998” (Henness 3). Furthermore, it is absolutely necessary to ban euthanasia because it violates human rights, contradicts religions and destroys the doctor-patient relationship. Firstly, regarding human rights one may think that euthanasia or euthanasia is compatible with human rights because of the term “ mercy". However, all human rights conventions and treaties are aimed at ensuring the human dignity that does not exist without the presence of an international community that protects the right to life. Therefore, mercy killing violates the concepts of human rights.
