To start things off in the courtroom, John Proctor is the protagonist and Abigail is the antagonist. Abigail also takes the girls to court with their witchcraft accusations. To start the matter in court, Hale believed that all the information she told him was factually false and only led Abigail to point to others like Mary Warren. “But God made my face; you can't want to rip my face open. Envy is a mortal sin, Mary”. (Miller 120). The irony here is that she calls out Mary Warren for committing a mortal sin like envy, yet they both lie in vain with the lord's name and committed adultery with John Proctor (since that is what according to her statistics happened) . Abigail also points to Elizabeth Proctor again and accuses her of having created a voodoo doll and sticking pins in it to harm her, when it was Mary Warren who put it in Proctor's house to have proof that Elizabeth should be arrested. «It's a tough test! (To Hale) I find here a doll that Goody Proctor keeps. I found it, sir. And in the belly of the doll there is a needle stuck” (Miller 79). Also it was Mary Warren who put it there, everyone thought Goody Proctor did it because she was at the Proctor house. However, even after Goody Proctor was supposed to be arrested with enough evidence, Mary Warren comes out to tell everyone that she is her doll..
