The Benefits of Implementing Quality Functions · Explain the benefits you think implementing quality functions can bring to a design team during design and production of a new product. Quality Function Implementations o The primary purpose (Q, F, D) is to clarify the requirements of any project or product that is to be undertaken. Therefore present the project in a fair way, allowing consumers to see measurable factors in the project or product. As a quality product designer implementing features has numerous benefits. When quality function implementation is used, this would allow the product designer to set some clear objectives through an action plan. Obviously as a product designer the consumer is the important factor in product design. You may have an age range and a gender to design for, but with Q, D, F you relate your action plan and objectives related to the consumer and what their needs are. If this can be achieved, it is more than likely that you will design a product that will meet consumer needs the first time, thus reducing time and minimizing costs. If this is not the case, modifications or changes to projects are made in the early stages when undertaking Q, D, F, while still keeping costs low. Since the time is shortened, it would not only minimize costs, but would imply that a designer would be more likely to meet the deadline more comfortably. Q, D, F can also lead to cheaper tools as errors are minimized. Keeping costs low will have a knock-on effect on the product when it is sold to the consumer. Designing a product costs money, so it is classified as overhead. The company selling the product will want to recoup the money lost on overheads, which will be taken into account when deciding the cost of a product. If overheads are lower as a result of Q,D,F then in turn the price charged on the product will be lower making it more attractive to consumers and
