When looking at films produced by Christians, one particular film production company stands out from the rest. This film production company is Sherwood Pictures. Sherwood Pictures has produced numerous films including Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Fireproof and Courageous. Sherwood Pictures always has a Christian theme or message in their films, and this is especially evident in the film Facing the Giants. Sherwood Pictures began with a pair of brothers, the Kendrick brothers, who were incredibly gifted in media and film (Catt) . When asked where he would like to be in five years, Alex Kendrick responded that he would like to make movies, but no church would keep him on staff if he did (Catt). Pastor Michael Catt (the pastor of his church and the man who put Kendrick on the staff at Sherwood Baptist Church) then encouraged Kendrick to create films if God was present (Catt). From there Sherwood Pictures was born starting with their first film, Flywheel. Subsequently, Facing the Giants was released with far better quality and workmanship than its predecessor. Facing Giants was released in 2006 with Alex Kendrick as director. The authors of the film were brothers Alex Kendrick and Stephen Kendrick. The film starred Alex Kendrick as the protagonist, Grant Taylor, and Shannen Fields as his wife. Actors Alex Kendrick and Jason McLeod would appear in subsequent Sherwood Pictures films. Facing the Giants is the story of Grant Taylor, a football coach and husband who seems destined for failure because he has coached six losing seasons and his family has long been in trouble. confusion. After the start of what appears to be another losing season, Grant discovers that a group of parents and his assistant coach are conspiring to fire and represent... middle of paper... a movie and in the production of the movie it aligns with my faith. Nothing in Facing the Giants was objectionable from a Christian perspective. Facing the Giants is an excellent film that demonstrates the Christian faith and its view of God. The film was of excellent quality not only in production, but also in content. Many films today are not suitable for viewing by Christians; in fact, they tend to be harmful to the Christian faith and spirit. This film, however, brings a twist and fights the reality of secularism in the film industry. Facing the Giants is a breath of fresh air that shows the right morals in the production and plot, and shines a light for God in the darkness of the film industry. Works Cited Catt, Michael.
