Sexual violence is when an act of touching, kissing, grouping, etc. is committed against a person to whom you did not give consent, and preventing sexual violence is so important because there are more and more cases every day (“The Reality of Sexual Violence on Campus”). The increasing rates of sexual assault on campuses have sparked fear in most students and as a community something should be done. To further raise students' awareness of the ways in which sexual violence can be prevented is to provide real-life situations through a video. Furthermore, I believe that preventing sexual violence on campuses is very important and that adequate funding should be allocated to raising awareness. It has been reported in recent years that 1 in 5 women have experienced sexual assault in college (“10 Ways to Fight Sexual Violence on Campus”). “The chance of a woman being sexually assaulted during college is about the same as contracting the flu during an average year…” as a woman, this statement is scary (“10 Ways to Fight Sexual Violence on Campus” ). How can we learn and focus on our studies if we don't feel safe on campus? The answer is that we cannot, no one can stay focused and do good in class if the thought of being sexually assaulted persists in their mind. You may be wondering: what about males? Why should this type of video attract them? Well women are not the only victims; males can also be victims. Additionally, if they are the predators, they can see what kind of harm they cause, and if they are the victims, they can learn about the resources available on campuses. Throughout the video, I want to incorporate Jib Fowles' key calls. Attract the audience by having a girl who is trying to escape. This girl will look weak, unkempt... middle of paper... Students should always be aware of their surroundings, let people know where they are going, and walk with a friend (“Staying Safe on campus”). You may be wondering why video is the best way to get this point across? Well, the scenarios make connection possible and the suggestions, resources and ways to get help seem practical and understandable. This video will have a combination of many appeals such as emotions, values and logic. Emotion: Most of the population can connect with the need to escape. Values: The suggestions provided in the video are clear, understandable and practical. Rationale: The video provides the percentage of women who are assaulted while in college, providing clear facts to the audience. With all three of these calls, I believe many students will be able to connect and further recognize the importance of preventing sexual violence on campus.
