Topic > The negative effects of marketing on children - 960

The question of morality does not exist in the field of marketing. Marketing companies are willing to do anything to increase profits, even if it means selling to young children. Previously, only a limited number of American companies targeted their marketing at children. Unfortunately, children today are targeted by telephone companies, oil companies, car companies and designer clothing companies. Although advertising is a factor that contributes to economic growth, it can also easily manipulate children into purchasing products that can affect their life/health. Author Eric Schlosser wrote an article titled “Kid Kustomers”. The main purpose of this article was to inform readers about how advertising targets children, so that they can sell their products. The article also explains how companies base their advertising on children's interests and cartoon characters to attract them. The text states that many parents work and don't have time to spend with their children, so they spoil them with products. It has become easier for manufacturers to produce products of interest to children, through data collected from children's clubs and the Internet. The author tells us how companies profit from these advertisements by targeting children. He concluded that many children spend more time watching TV than going outside to play. These TV commercials are influencing children to buy products that may not be good for their life/health. Children are influenced to buy products that can affect their mental and physical health. One of the major factors contributing to the increase in childhood obesity, and even complications such as type 2 diabetes, is the effect of advertising by the food industry. T... in the center of the card... health comes before everything else. You should not accustom your child to junk food, because you are just spoiling him. Parents should work together and cook at home, make the child eat healthily, and the healthiest food is always prepared at home. Try to educate your child to eat healthily and spend sensibly. You should also do more activities with your children, become their friend. For example, my mother and I are like best friends. I don't watch much TV because I'm always busy with an activity with my mom. Always remember to invest in your child's health and well-being. Take control of your children and don't let marketers influence your child. Works Cited Schlosser, Eric. “Kustomer boy.” http://english310a.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/kid_kustomers1.pdf.
