The Egyptians did not use the wheel during the Pyramid Age, an invention that would have had limited use on softer terrain under heavy loads. It is a myth that sleds were dragged manually, sometimes with the help of "beasts of burden", on smooth roads. Some of the existing routes were equipped with “wooden cross beams” to support the sled.
