Introduction Mission, vision, and values contribute to an organization's ability to achieve a desired end state by clearly stating the fundamental principles that will guide the organization's actions company and define a clear set of values that encourages staff to work towards the desired end state. The Alameda County Community Food Bank was chosen to complete a strategic plan. This document will discuss the strategic plan for the Community Food Bank of Alameda County, the components of the strategic management process that will be analyzed, and how the results will influence the leadership and culture of the organization. Background The Community Food Bank of Alameda County has been in existence helping people since 1985 and serves as a central clearinghouse for donated food in Alameda County (Food Bank of Alameda County, 2007). The Food Bank provides assistance to poor, low-income, working adults, older adults, people with disabilities, survivors of abuse, people with AIDS, and the homeless (Alameda County Food Bank, 2007). Assistance is provided through numerous community-based organizations and conducts community education activities on the issues of hunger and poverty. Mission Statement The Alameda County Community Food Bank seeks to alleviate hunger and address its root causes in Alameda County through nutrition education and public policy, while providing nutritious food to people. needy and defending their rights to fresh and healthy food. The mission statement must be clearly defined to determine the underlying objectives and philosophies that will shape the strategic position of the Food Bank. The purpose that identifies the scope of its operations in terms of product and market and distinguishes it from other companies in the same industry is the company's mission (Pearce & Robinson, 2004). The Food Bank's mission statement includes the company's strategic decision makers, the image they want to project, the company's self-concept, the main product or service areas, and the customer needs the company will seek to satisfy ( Pearce & Robinson, 2004). Achieving the desired end state The mission, vision and values of the Food Bank will help the organization achieve the desired end state by ensuring that the planning process is focused and moves in the direction intended by the organization and its stakeholders. The mission statement provides a unifying purpose for the organization that sets the stage for goal development, decision making, and encapsulates the organization's business activity. By fostering a sense of shared expectations across all levels and projecting a sense of value that can be assimilated by external stakeholders, the mission statement can inspire the organization to achieve the desired end state.
