We all know that God is love and it is shown everywhere in the Bible. To be merciful is to have ample grace. To be just means to be respectably good and just. These two attributes seem to contradict each other because how can a merciful God judge a person for their mistakes or how can someone who hates sin have mercy on people who do evil? Many atheists wonder how could a merciful God be just? The answer to this question is that God's mercy is expressed to us through His love. God is a perfect God, which means that His justice and mercy are also impeccable. This article will focus on comparing and contrasting the attributes that God is just and merciful, pointing out the similarities, differences, and showing the ways in which God demonstrates them to humanity. WHAT IS RIGHT? The meaning of justice is to behave and act according to what is right. therefore good or right. The act of justice is based on equality that people should get what they deserve. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 32:4 “He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are righteous. A faithful God who does nothing wrong, upright and just is he." We see here in this verse that God is merciful and in everything he does he is righteous in his discipline. As sinners we fall short of the glory of God and for this reason when we commit our wrong actions such as adultery, lying, lust, theft, murder and worship of false idols, etc. it is when we are judged for our sins and according to what God finds just so we will be persecuted. Righteousness is an attribute shown to us every day because of His holiness.
