Topic > Racism in the Confederate Flag - 1578

Even after that flag talk has died down until now. Recent events have called the Confederate flag into question. The main event that happened recently is the church shooting in South Carolina. A white man went to a “black” church, sat with them throughout the service. he sat in the back in silence and waited until the end. At the end of the service he fired his gun. Nine people died (Eversley). The same thing happened two years ago, only it was a little worse. A black man walked into a “white” church. Just like the white man, he sat down, did service with the people, and finally fired and killed the people. Only four people died in that situation. After killing people in the church, he kidnapped his wife and then killed her (cowbell). There isn't much difference between the two scenarios. The only story that made the news was The First Story. An anonymous person mentioned him after one of the shootings. “The only reason someone would walk into a church and shoot people praying is out of pure hatred.” (Eversley) This quote says it all. It didn't say anything about race or color or anything. But only the first story made news because it was about a white boy in a black church. After the story hit the news, everyone said he did it to start a race war.
