The first written accounts of bowhunting appeared in 1200 BC with the Assyrians and Hittites (archery equipment). The use of the bow allowed hunters to kill game from greater distances, reducing the risk of startling prey. These predecessors of the modern bow were constructed of animal bones and wood.
