The strong and exceptional political and feminist poet, Adrienne Cecile Rich, has captivated her audiences with her true and soft words. It is a great example of uncovering the hidden struggles for more than one community and is responsible for providing so many enlightening pages to read. The most stable way to describe her tremendous gravitational pull would be to quote the woman herself: “Art means nothing if it merely decorates the table of the power that holds it hostage.” For me she is a creative person for the courage with which she has defended women's rights for so long and revealed what should be in everyone's perspective, to begin with. On May 16, 1929, Adrienne Rich was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the eldest daughter of Arnold Rice Rich and Helen Elizabeth Rich. Her father, Arnold, was the chairman of pathology at John Hopkins Medical School, while her mother was a composer and pianist before she married. Her father had always encouraged her to read and write her own stories and especially poems, gaining knowledge from his library full of John Keats, William Blake, Matthew Arnold and others. Adrienne and her younger sister were home-schooled by their mother, after their father planned to create Adrienne as a prodigy, feeling very ambitious about their daughter's future. Adrienne and her sister were homeschooled until Adrienne was old enough to start fourth grade in a public school. She attended high school at Roland Park Country School, an all-girls school for intellectually ambitious students. After graduation, Rich attended Radcliffe College in Cambridge, Massachusetts; a liberal arts college for women. At Radcliffe, Rich concentrated on poetry and learned the art of writing.
