Topic > Case study on style and attention deficit...

ADHD affects many general functions in a person's life. Stiles often can't concentrate in school or is preoccupied with something else and neglects his schoolwork. During one episode the teacher was teaching a lesson and when he passed Stiles, Stiles had crime research all over his desk and wasn't paying attention to the teacher. He also has to take Adderall so he can concentrate in class, which he sometimes attends. People with ADHD have a correlation with car accidents. Stiles had three car accidents on the show while driving his Jeep. In regards to behavioral problems, Stiles is often seen as immature or annoying by his peers due to his hyperactive nature. Derek, another character and Stiles' future friend, refers to Stiles as a "hyperactive spaz". ADHD has also affected Stiles' relationships somewhat. He has only one true friend who he has known for years and considers him a brother. Most of the other characters misinterpret Stiles' ADHD symptoms as annoying and immature and tend not to hang out with him. It took two seasons before he could become friends with Lydia and Derek, meaning they had to overcome ADHD and get to know Stiles to appreciate him.
