“Don't settle for stories, for how things went with others. Unravel your myth. This quote (from Essential Rumi by the poet and theologian Rumi) is perhaps one of my favorite inspirational quotes. For me, it's telling me that instead of reading, listening, and learning what others do and what others can accomplish, I should accomplish something myself. I should put pen to paper and write my place in history. Everyone has the potential to create their own story. But I want to do more. I want my story to be remembered throughout history. I want to do something important and meaningful with my life. With the right start I know that I, like everyone else, have the ability to create high mountain peaks and crystal clear streams in my life. I can write the plot elements that contain my life in any way I want. And with this ability, I want to write something great. However, if I wanted to become the author of my own life, what would my story be about? Often, when political scientists attempt to predict future events in the economy, many of them reflect on past economic events. Likewise, if I want to have a clear picture of what I will be happy to do with my life, I should reflect on what has interested me up to this moment. Throughout my life I have been very involved in theatre. Comedies, musicals, the school forensics team, whatever you want. If it's drama related, I've probably felt it. I also like music. I've been playing the piano for about eight years and occasionally sing a little. But would I like to pursue an artistic career? I thought about it, but I feel like science was more of a true passion of mine. I am absolutely fascinated by the human body. In particular… halfway through the document… there must be a job within the FBI that requires knowledge of how human biology affects the brain. After further research, I discovered that science degrees were actually in high demand! It could be a definitive twist in my story if I chose to go that route. Who knows where my story would have taken me then! Could I have a chance as team leader? A boss? FBI Director, perhaps? The possibilities are endless! Whether I choose to take the path of medicine and research, or the path that leads to the fight against drug use, the variations of my story seem to never end. But I know that ultimately I have the power to choose which path to take. The pen will remain in my hand and I will be able to write the resolution of my story however I choose. And with the opportunity to excel with higher education, I know my story is just beginning. Works Cited Essential Rumi by Rumi
