According to Monstano's website it is an agricultural company that helps support farmers. They claim to do this by producing seeds that help farmers increase yields while protecting the environment. This is a great business model as they produce herbicide resistant seeds, which eliminate weeds from farms. This is a great business model as they also produce the product that kills weeds. To remove seeds from a farm, a farmer must purchase Monsanto seeds, as well as related herbicides. However these seeds are not found naturally in nature, like many bacteria that have evolved to acquire resistance to antibiotics, these seeds are genetically modified by humans. A genetically modified organism (GMO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques such as recombinant DNA technology. Recently, after many years, GMOs are back in the spotlight, as people are starting to learn more from independent studies. However, Monsanto tried to hide these studies to stop GMO labeling laws and save the company. Monsanto has been linked to many different acts of corruption over the past decade, including using bribes to pay a politician in another country to try to stop GMO labeling legislation. After clearly engaging in acts of corruption over a long period of time, Monsanto must be punished for its actions that harm the American public and environment. Any genetically modified organism can be called a transgenic organism. The two main advantages of transgenic plants are that they can help increase yields without having to select bad plants, and that they can be resistant to toxins.
