It takes all kinds of people to make the world go round. Who are we to say they don't belong? Who are any of us to say that it is wrong to be different? So be it that bright yellow crayon or the weird pumpkin. Sing out loud even if you can't sing or dance like crazy. Who cares! Live your life the way you want; without worrying about the judgment of others. I think August understood that. I chose the book Wonder, written by RJ Palacio. I had never read one of her books before, but Ms. Kerry recommended it to me and I thought it would be interesting. Wonder is a fictional novel for children. The title makes me think of something different; different, incredible and slightly curious. The title tells you right away that there will be something wonderful in the book. If you didn't know what the book was about, the picture of what looks like a boy's face on the cover should help you think that the wonderful part of the book is about that boy on the cover. Even though the boy on the cover has only one eye, the boy in the story doesn't have one. He has a facial deformity and has had many surgeries, but he still has problems and this causes problems with other children. There are many main characters in the novel, but the main character is Auggie or August Pullman. Auggie is a ten-year-old boy who has facial deformities that he has carried with him since he was born. Jack Will, Summer Dawson, and Charlotte Cody are August's friends throughout the story. Olivia is Auggie's older sister. He and his parents call her Via. Justin is Via's boyfriend. He is known to only write in lowercase letters due to the "monologue running in his head and not having time for capital letters". Julian Albans... middle of paper... I would recommend this novel to others because it is a deep, meaningful and moving story. Someone who would enjoy reading this would most likely be an outcast because they can relate to the struggles Auggie faces. While they won't be the exact same struggles, they can be about the struggle of trying to fit in or be normal in a society where it is not acceptable to be different. This novel clearly shows the difficulties that children and young adults face. It's okay to be yourself and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Individuality is what makes the world work and who are we to say that someone isn't "normal"? The moral of the story is live your life the way you want. August struggled with the pressures of conformity, but ultimately realized that it was okay to be different, because that's how he is. Be a fool and do what makes you happy.
