Think about what your life was like when you were ten. For most people, the only concerns were whether I had finished my homework and whether I had recently updated for new games. Unfortunately, in Sierra Leone, children at the age of ten were worried whether that day would be the only day they would be able to breathe. The cause of one of these devastating outcomes is Sierra Leone's civil war. This war was a long bloody battle that took many lives and hopes of children and families. Being located on the west coast of Africa and between Guinea and Liberia, "Sierra Leone is rich in easily extractable diamonds" (BBC News). Diamonds had brought “encouragement” to violence in the country in 1991. The attacks by the revolutionary “United Front (RUF), led by former army corporal Foday Sankoh” (Encyclopedia Britannica), were against government soldiers and civilians.
