Susan Glaspell writes Trifles based on a real-life murder and introduces contemporary feminist concerns about identity and the need for support and understanding from women. In the story, the county attorney, the sheriff, and a neighboring farmer go to the isolated, abandoned farm to investigate the murder of John Wright, while the sheriff's and farmer's wives go to get some belongings for Minnie, who is now found in prison. the prison. John Wright is strangled in his bed and his wife Minnie is the prime suspect as she does not wake up when the crime occurs. The three men begin the search for clues to a possible motive for the murder with an arrogant and perfect plan. They laugh at women's attention to trifles, which is actually the key point of the crime case. Ultimately, the women discover the truth about the case that the men don't, and decide to hide the evidence as they empathize with the life Minnie has lived. Trifles by Susan Glaspell presents the divergence of principles on judgment between women and men and highlights the difference in gender and behavior. Mrs. Peter and Mrs. Hale's empathy, protection of women, and perceptions of judgment and ethics turn the ending of the play on its head. In the play, Glaspell shows the oppression of women in marriage with the character Minnie. Mrs. Hale says that Minnie "wore nice dresses and was lively, when she was Minnie Foster, one of the town girls who sang in the choir" (Glaspell 188-190). Conflict occurs when Mrs. Hales describes Mr. Wright as "a hard man" (Glaspell 311) and says "just to spend the day's time with him - (Shivers.) Like a violent wind to the bones" (Glaspell 311-312). Other than that, Mrs. Hale hasn't been... the focus of the paper... she's separated the case from little things that tell what Minnie's life is like and what Minnie's thoughts are. The success in identifying the killer shows the need to recognize women's ability and says that the divergent principle of female judgment should indeed be supported. Titled Trifles, Susan Glaspell symbolizes women as insignificant beings from the male perspective and, small and detailed things, which are of great importance and value, are considered inessential to men. Trifles symbols showed the social and psychological oppression of women. The show criticizes the culture that is inherently patriarchal and society's conservative views towards women, and shows that women's sense of empathy and protection, as well as women's principles of judgment, can actually cause a big problem, changing an issue that it happens in a way that it actually should be.
