She managed to do this by creating a loose character and developing him more and more as the story went on. For example, Jem was a loose, adventurous and curious character, but with the times of Boo Radley hiding in the house and the trial, he developed during times of social criticism. In each of these events, Jem had to be courageous. With Boo hiding in the house, he ran across the lawn to prove his courage to the children. Even during the trial, Jem used courage to face the crowd in front of the prison. All in all Harper Lee uses a developing character to show how the city reacts to a certain character, in a certain case. All in all, the social commentary surrounding the character all depends on which character it is
