Topic > Shame By Sandra Cisneros Analysis - 858

The two essays discussed in this article are "My Name" and "Shame." Sandra Cisneros in 'My Name' presents a very strong point of view on how her name has a different meaning and makes her remember her grandmother with whom she shares her name and also regrets that it is somehow related to the weakness of her and of her. her grandmother felt when they had to behave a certain way because they were Mexican and had no power and freedom. The name was a kind of reminder that they must be kind and polite and precisely because none of the meaning of the name represents something that is powerful, expressive and strong. Esperanza in English means hope while in Spanish it meant sadness and waiting and this inflicted the nations of society towards women. Richard Gregory in 'Shame' described episodes of his childhood when he was made ashamed every time by his ethnicity or by the fact that he did not have a father. He describes his childhood where he was humiliated in front of the whole class by his teacher and also loved Helene. The teacher pointed out that he lived on money collected from class help and that he did not have a father, which left a scar in his memory as a shameful event. He couldn't forget the fact that he stood aside and everyone felt sorry for him, it was something that made him feel weak and guilty for no reason. Both essays portrayed the protagonists very strongly and revealed some of their weaknesses which have notions related to the perception of people and society. Both essays have the similarity in discussing the weak points in the lives of the protagonists. They describe the social stigmas and fear of being challenged or feeling guilty about that... the middle of the paper... tied to it that were affecting her growth as a writer while Richard had to struggle with his past and worked hard against discrimination against blacks and other areas such as athletics. The two essays were autobiographical stories of the authors and discussed the deep, inner problems that transformed them into good people and their lives that developed their ideas of name, identity and social perception. Both have a strong and effective image of thoughts and the use of words gave strength to the lyrics. Both stories, although they were quite different from each other, had a similarity in the image of the society which led to the pressure and effect on them psychologically and being the winners in the end.
