WEB Du Bois is a well-known sociologist who conducted research on African Americans in poor neighborhoods in Philadelphia. His famous studio is known as “Philadelphia Negro”. Through his research, he outlines important information about the black population such as age, gender, family, marriage, religion and education. Du Bois placed more emphasis on his research into the social and structural conditions that cause numerous problems for blacks. He concluded that these “Negro problems” are a function of historical conditions; therefore, the only way social change can occur is if whites and blacks change their discriminatory behaviors. One of Du Boise's famous works was called Souls of Black Folk and contained important intellectual and political information in the black community. However, Du Bois became convinced that imperial data alone could not persuade whites that racial discrimination and prejudice were at play in society. The reason why black souls is significant, because it contains three concepts known as color line, double consicity and viel. The color line addresses the historical dimensions of race and offers a clear view of the lightness or darkness of skin color among Africans. WEB Du Bois emphasizes that race is not only a structural reality, but also a symbolic and experiential reality. According to WEB Du Bois, it explores the consequences of the peculiar feeling of blacks in America and emphasizes "How does it feel to be a problem?". (CETS, PG 348). Today, in the context of modern society, our president comes from African American descent. President Obama holds the most powerful position in the nation and may consider himself an outcast and a stranger in his own home. Many might be…middle of the card…because of the color of his skin. However, he could admit to knowing at least one black person. According to Du Bois “The Negro is a kind of seventh child, born with a veil and endowed with second sight in this American world, a world which gives him no true self-consciousness, but only allows him to see himself through the revelation of other world" (STC, PG 351). The black man still tries to figure out who he is as a person while the white men constantly belittle him. To close out this research, Du Bois studies does a great job of describing the internal battles that African Americans face. His three concepts exist among the African population, and his multidimensional work on racial behavior reinforces this. WEB Du Bois recognizes that racism is indeed a structural force, so his rational factors and collectivist theories are significant even today.
