In 2006, the Reverend John Hagee founded the Christian Zionist organization Christians United for Israel (CUFI), which he says finds support in the Scriptures. CUFI helps connect churches and individuals with ways to support the State of Israel politically and financially. During World War II, the German Nazi political party killed over six million Jews in what we now call the Holocaust. Since the discovery of this act of genocide, many Christians have experienced and expressed guilt over these crimes. In 1948 the State of Israel was officially declared, although today it is not even recognized as a member of the United Nations by 32 sovereign member states. The area that constitutes the State of Israel has been a political “hotbed” since its inception and numerous wars and battles have been fought across the territory and political landscape. Instead of the motivations that many Christians have for financially and politically supporting the State of Israel against the native Palestinian peoples, the morality of Christians, influenced by Scripture, worship, doctrine and other resources, should instead lead them to support peace and justice between the two. groups. One of the motivations that can be drawn from the work of CUFI and John Hagee is linked to its eschatology. The CUFI website states that “it is critical to educate Christians about the biblical and moral imperatives for supporting Israel and building Christian support for Israel across America.” Hagee is known to quote Genesis 12:3: “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth will be blessed,” as the basis for part of his reasoning in support of the State of Israel.
