A Greek philosopher, Heraclitus, once said "A man's character is his destiny." Everyone has flaws. Some that may be more serious than others. For example, some people may have a gambling addiction, while others don't remember to turn off the lights. People's flaws come back to haunt them after a while. The tragedy of Macbeth is a clear example of this. William James, the author of The Principles of Psychology, wrote “We are weaving our own destiny, good or bad, never to be undone.” Therefore in Macbeth, whether they were good or bad, it didn't matter because their flaws ultimately led to their downfall. Many characters die due to their flaws. However, not all characters deserved their fate. Some characters have a small flaw, like Duncan, that shouldn't have led to their death. Other characters have major flaws, which are what will ultimately lead to their deaths anyway. The first Thane of Cawdor betrayed his king, Duncan, by trying to lead a revolution against England. The Thane wanted the throne of England for himself and was consequently murdered by Macbeth. He was greedy and wanted more power and this is what led to his death. According to Ross, he was a “disloyal traitor.” His murder was not disheartening because the Lord of Cawdor deserved his fate. He was waging a battle in which many lost their lives for the sake of greed and he deserved to die for it. If you pledge allegiance to someone or something, they trust and believe in you for their safety as well as that of others. Breaking that trust is betrayal, and at the time Macbeth was written, betrayal was equivalent to death. This is why he was killed and this is why he deserved it. Banquo on the other hand is more interesting...... middle of paper ...... than any other character because he killed so many people .Every character who died in Macbeth had a fatal flaw because everyone has flaws. Some defects are more serious than others. People's flaws come back to haunt them after a while. The first Thane of Cawdor was a traitor. Duncan was too confident. Banquo did nothing about the knowledge he had. Lady Macbeth helped plot Duncan's murder. Last but not least, Macbeth destroyed the natural order and harmony of nature. Not all dead characters deserved to die just because of their flaws. Duncan should not have been punished for trusting someone and Banquo would have said something, but he was waiting for the right moment or some physical evidence. If Macbeth had not been so ambitious, none of the problems would have occurred. Ultimately their flaws were the cause of their demise.
