Why are they effective? – Emoticons are effective because they show how the writer feels when they insert them, however they are unprofessional and would not be included in sick notes or emails to and from your employer. Examples: '  ' this is an example of a happy emoticon representing that the writer is happy. This skill is used during a meeting or when something is presented. Why are they effective? – Taking notes is effective because it helps you remember what tasks need to be done and helps you remember what someone said or taught you. Taking notes helps a person stay organized because they can work from a list of notes instead of from memory in random order. It is important that punctuation is used correctly because otherwise the writing may not make sense. It is very important when writing an application letter to a company because if they see that you cannot use it properly they may not take your application further even if you work in a company and are advertising, clients may find it unprofessional if they are reading something which doesn't really make sense. Proofreading Proofreading is when you or someone else reads a document, such as an application letter, and tries to spot any errors in it. Proofreading is better than spell checking a document because if someone reads it they will be able to tell whether or not there are grammatical errors whereas a spell checker will not notice as long as the word is spelled correctly.
