Everyone has the ability to cast a vision, and most of us do it every day. We make comments about what could, or should be, suggestions on how to improve our lives, our friends' lives, our lives at work. Vision casting is a directional skill that allows us to recognize the need for change and when to make it happen. Whether you are leading a Fortune 500 company, a small business, or a group of volunteers, a leader must have the ability to communicate the team's purpose clearly, concisely, and compellingly. Identifying a vision is simply not enough; we need a leader with original ideas, who knows how to answer difficult questions and who focuses with confidence on the final result, i.e. specific, realistic and achievable objectives. If leaders hope to gain trust when expressing their vision, they must also adopt new tactics to inspire, educate and learn to negotiate effectively. Only then can the team perform at a higher level.
