Hr. 1The book we read in class was called Anthem by Ayn Rand. This book is about a society that is corrupt in many ways. A couple of reasons why it is corrupt is because there is no individualism and society moves very slowly. It used to take a long time just to make candles, nowadays candles are made very quickly and easily. The government made sure that the advancement of technology was slow and did not progress. None of the people in town have real names, they are known as robots or as a group. For example, the name of one of the main characters is Equality 7-2521. Equality is a garbage collector in this society and is not like all other people. He is intelligent, strong, self-centered and curious. Another character Equality falls in love with is Liberty 5-3000. She's a farmer who gives Equality water when they shouldn't be talking to each other. Equality's best friend and only friend is International 4-8818. He helped Equality find the tunnel and kept it a secret from the rest of society. Equality will later be called Prometheus and Freedom, Gold and later in the house Gea. Ayn Rand renames them Prometheus and Gaea because they are very similar to these gods from Greek mythology. Later, they run together into the Forbidden Forest to start a new life for them and the future. They find a house with many books and Equality reads them to discover the Self. This is when Equality 7-2421 renames itself Prometheus and Liberty 5-3000, Gaea.Ayn Rand calls Equality 7-2521 Prometheus because they are similar in many ways. When Equality was younger he saw the Transgressor of the Unspeakable Word suffer. He was burned alive because he was one of the few who knew what individualism was. Equal...... middle of paper ......and the education of their dishonest city and directed Equality in pursuit of the greatest part of human strength, selfishness. “Ego” is the forbidden word from which The Transgressor of the Unspeakable Word suffered. He was burned alive because he was one of the few who knew what individualism was. Prometheus and Gaea have modernized this human race for centuries and initiated a new kind of success and progress. Equality and Freedom will create a society that could help the planet for the creation of light by rejoicing in the individual human spirit, a thing to be liberated, not held back and crushed by terror. Their findings put an end to the corrupt preaching of altruism and humility in favor of the truly moral philosophies of freedom and, indeed, selfishness. These are the reasons why Ayn Rand called Equality, Prometheus, and Freedom, Gaea.
