You could shoot me with your words,You could hurt me with your eyes,You could kill me with your hate,But still, like the air, I will rise. The above passage contains some lines of " Still I Rise", a poem by the famous American poet Maya Angelou. In this poem, the narrator sends the message that no matter what happens, you should continue to stand tall. The narrator's decision to stick to this message changed his life for the better. This poem is basically a metaphor for how my mother, LaToya, views her life. He's not the type to let it get him down for a long period of time. In the midst of all the negativity in her life, LaToya always makes sure the positives shine through. If anything, it was her high self-esteem and optimism that got her this far in her life. LaToya isn't afraid to be confident; he is not afraid to be happy. The first impression he creates is that of a well-dressed businessman; someone who knows what they're doing. With her auburn hair neatly slicked back and her face lightly made up, LaToya appears to be well-groomed. His clothes are anything but casual; she prefers exotic high heels, a brightly colored dress and a blazer or shawl. The only time she wears casual clothes is on the weekends, and even then her clothes are still dressy. LaToya has held more than 38 jobs in her life so far; 25 of them were in the dental field. He currently runs a local dental practice and has done so for 10 years. LaToya not only does the greeting, she also files charts, organizes the office, greets patients, hires employees, calls insurance companies and so much more! LaToya did all these tasks on her own and didn't seem to need a single... middle of paper... evidently, as I was always by her side, comforting her. In the end, LaToya has finally come to terms with her mother's death. After giving birth to her second child (my sister Makala) there was a huge change in her attitude. His motivation was back and stronger than ever. LaToya found a job at a local dental office (the one she currently works at) and was immediately promoted to manager. Both his confidence level and optimism increased significantly. Sitting outside a Starbucks coffee shop, listening to the hustle and bustle of the city, both my mother and I are deep in thought. I'm reading a novel while LaToya is editing her resume. Suddenly I lean over and ask her why she didn't completely give up everything after her mother died. He looks at me, with a faraway look in his eyes and says "Nothing but death can stop me from achieving my prosperity"..”
