Topic > Reflection on Education - 1005

Education provides us with knowledge. According to the Oxford dictionary (2014) “..[Education is] the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction”. I believe that education is not just about textbooks, but about providing a meaningful and quality education to each individual and equipping them with the skills needed for success in their lives. Teaching is not just a job, but also a way of life, we must provide our students with authentic learning and academic, ethical and physical growth. Education should be a unique experience for each student. Students should have the right to a quality education and the ability to learn regardless of their race, gender, or ability. Each child's abilities and interests differ, as teachers we should differentiate teaching (Marsh, 2010, p.255), see each student as an individual to help them discover their inner passions and help them grow. Understanding Piaget's theory in teaching allows teachers to provide learning experiences that match each student's respective abilities (Marsh, 2010, p. 43). I believe it is important to challenge students and see them grow to their fullest potential. We should not only support students academically, but also provide students with guidance to help others create a better society. I strive to teach students at different levels and see them develop together as a group and as individuals. Jean Jacques states that “we are born weak, we need strength, we are born totally without, we need help, we are born stupid, we need judgement, everything that we do not have at birth and that we need when we are growing up is given to us by 'education” (Cullen, 2007 p. 44). Growing up being the first generation of my family in Australia, a child raised between two co...... halfway...... achieving positive results. I believe the aim of education should be to prepare children for life, enhancing the potential of every child to connect and contribute their ideas and skills to society. As teachers we must improve the lives of our students despite their background or learning abilities. Provide meaningful and authentic education to our students and enable our students to engage and be motivated in their own learning. Education not only enables students to gain knowledge, but also provides the skills needed to pursue a meaningful and successful career and future. Finally, we must support our students to reach their full potential and encourage them to improve their skills. ..” - (Frankle Victor, 1972)
