What if I were born to die and lived a miserable, torturous life in the meantime? This is the daily life of animals on intensive farms. Intensive farming is a system of raising livestock using intensive methods, whereby poultry, pigs or cattle are confined indoors under strictly controlled conditions. [add citation for definition] Intensive farming is not only inhumane, but it also damages our health and we don't even have the slightest idea. With our culture today, we believe whatever the media tells us; we trust them. Every year, the meat industry spends tons of money on advertising, brainwashing us into telling us what food we should eat. They place their ads on television, radio and the Internet and have even partnered with schools in exchange for free educational resources. We like to imagine that the meat we eat was once free, happy and died quickly. But this is a lie. If we do nothing, who will? Did you know that more than 19 million animals are killed every hour? This means that 19,011 animals are killed per minute (2013d). Animals on factory farms are born, raised and slaughtered in confined buildings. He is never allowed to go out for a run, to enjoy life. They were born to be killed and tortured in the process. This is not just one farm animal, but a variety of them. +++ The last sentence is not necessary, include it in other sentences to connect which different animals AND how they affect humans. ++THIS EXPRESSION. ☺Chickens are one of the most tortured animals in intensive farming. Farmers get more money for chickens that are heavier and have enlarged thighs and breasts. Like most factory-farmed animals, broiler chickens are raised in overcrowded cages their entire lives and become very aggressive. Because of this aggressiveness, farm workers cut their beaks and toes without any kind of painkiller or anesthetic just to stop them from fighting. After being "beaked" some chickens are no longer able to eat and die of starvation. Laying hens lay 90-95% of the eggs sold in the United States (2013b). The torture begins the day they are born. The chicks are placed on a belt, where an employee takes each chick to see if it is male or female. Newly hatched male chicks are thrown into garbage bags, ground alive, crushed and killed in many other inhumane ways.
