As our former President Thomas Jefferson once stated, "If people let the government decide what foods to eat and what medicines to take, their bodies they would soon displease a state like souls living under tyranny." The government has once again decided to control the lives of civilians, and this time it controls what we can and cannot eat. In simpler words, they have become the “food nannies”. The government should leave the concern of health to the people who are violating. Every time a government official promulgates a new rule about what can and cannot be consumed, it violates the rights listed in the Constitution, limits choices, and is ineffective. Mayor Bloomberg of New York has decided to try to implement an absurd law that limits the size of soda sold in restaurants. This law, and all others that attempt to control the amount of calorie intake, violate the rights enshrined in the Constitution. Article one of the Constitution states that all people have the freedom to make their own decisions, but introducing food regulations and taxes on certain items is bad....
