Topic > Technology and the Classroom - 1053

In today's world, integrating technology into education is no longer a new fad. Over the last decade technology has arguably become an integral part of society and has found its way into the education system in seemingly diverse ways. The use of technology in the classroom has moved from the simple computer or TV in the classroom to a wide range of devices, such as SmartBoards, iPads, and even software programs. Teachers around the world have begun to adopt these devices and their benefits in their lessons and daily activities. With that in mind, I'd like to focus on some of the most popular devices used today, how they came to be, their benefits, as well as succinct information from an actual interview with a current educator. Technology in the classroom has quickly become the supposed magic bullet in today's educational world. The one thing that will solve all our teaching problems. It's also the one thing that seems to be ever-changing, every year, every week, and lately what feels like every hour. In recent years, one of the most popular products from the expanding tech world that is enjoying widespread use in the classroom is the SmartBoard. It has come to replace the use of whiteboards, projectors and TVs commonly used in the past. The SmartBoard is essentially "a special type of touch-sensitive interactive whiteboard that can be used to collaborate and communicate with students in the classroom, with faculty or staff at conferences [and so on...]" ("Smartboard"). It was first introduced in 1991 by SMART Technologies and has since been adapted into many series such as the 800 series or the cheaper 400 series. As you can... middle of paper... both educators and students will benefit from its wide range of uses now and in the years to come as the technology continues to evolve. Who knows what lies in store for us, but we certainly only proceed upwards and beyond. Works Cited Handwerk, B. (2013, December 10). iPads improve classroom learning, study finds.
