Topic > Personal Opinion Essay: College Athletes Should Be Paid

A few hours passed and it was approaching midnight: game time. As I was setting up my gear, all the possible things that could go wrong made my head spin. As I finished putting on my pads and other gear, I heard a voice behind me: “Stay focused, buddy, and play like you have been.” It was RJ, trying to help me focus and motivate me. Entering that dark tunnel with the light at the end is like an exhilarating wave of nervousness and excitement. As I neared the end of the tunnel, all I could hear was the crowd yelling and screaming. From then on, as we ran across the field, another person took over, and I didn't know the outcome of what was about to happen. As I looked at the scoreboard, all I could focus on was the clock... 25...24...23...22... "One last play and it's all over" I told my teammates in the meeting. “The simplest play in all of football, honey!” RJ exclaimed to me. 18…17…16…15 I ran to the line, I breathed a sigh of relief, I knew I had done it again. And all I had to do was kneel down. 10...8...6...4...2...1. Game over, 55-49 In my head all I could think about was the MVP of the game: ME.Arrogant and rude I tended to be after a game like that. Just as the last reporter and camera moved away from my face, a very shady and strange man slowly approached me. He leaned closer to me and whispered in my ear “Do you want to make money quickly and easily?” I was confused at first... middle of paper... education. That's not what a college is, an educational destination. Although all these topics create different views on the topic, they keep repeating the same things over and over again. College athletes work tirelessly to play at a professional level, when in reality that is not the case, but these college athletes should be compensated with millions of dollars the colleges make. It is understandable that they will receive payment when they move on to the next level, but while they are in college they must set up a trust fund or receive a direct payment from the big business that is the NCAA. They are commonly referred to as the “cartel”. (Louis Barbash). They receive this pseudonym because they are responsible and have a lot in the decisions made by colleges. College athletes receive so much attention and bring so much to their schools that they should get paid one way or another.
