Given that “70% of the world's surface” (Recyclebank, 2014) is covered in water, it seems like there is an infinite amount of it. However, only “1% of the world's water is drinkable” (EPA, 2013). Water is a vital necessity and we do not have an infinite quantity of it. That's why I want to encourage you to save water. Not only do we benefit, but also the earth and the environment. By conserving water you can help delay water shortages, save money, and all it takes is small, simple changes to make a difference. First of all, by conserving water we can delay water scarcity. Many important water suppliers, such as rivers, are drying up due to increased water waste. Scientists warn that there is a “50% chance that Lake Mead will dry up by 2021” (Real Truth, 2008). Lake Mead provides water to more than “25 million people, including those in Arizona” (Real Truth, 2008). Researchers also calculate that if water consumption continues to increase by 2014, there is a “10% chance that Lake Mead will no longer provide usable water” (Real Truth, 2008).
