Love: a blessing and a curse“Above all, love one another deeply, for love covers a multitude of sins.” I Peter 4:8-9 says that love is essential to life, the same thing Shakespeare believed. The tragedy Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare is a love story in which Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet experience the ups and downs of a relationship in five days. Romeo Montague is the son of Lord and Lady Montague. Romeo's family is feuding with Juliet's family, especially her parents Lord and Lady Capulet. The earldom of Paris is the man chosen by Lord Capulet to marry Juliet. Paris is excited to marry Juliet but doesn't really know Juliet for who she really is. Romeo and Juliet meet at a Capulet party which Romeo crashes. For these two it's love at first sight. Romeo and Juliet continue to see each other without anyone knowing except Juliet's nurse and Friar Laurence, the priest of Verona, Italy. Juliet and Romeo are so in love that they decide to secretly marry Friar Laurence. After a fight in the streets after the secret wedding, Romeo is now forced to flee to Mantua to avoid having to serve the sentence, death, for killing Tybalt. Friar Lawrence devises a plan to fake Juliet's death using a sleeping potion so he can then take Juliet to Mantua to be with Romeo. The plan goes awry and Romeo poisons himself after Juliet appears to be dead. Juliet then wakes up and sees that Romeo is dead. She cannot bear the weight of his disappearance and stabs herself with his dagger. In the space of five days, Romeo and Juliet meet, marry and love each other until they die. Shakespeare suggests that impulsive love and non-love lead to destruction, but patient love and sincere love lead to joy....... middle of paper ......r ultimately leads to their fall which in this case is death. They don't understand that the key to a successful relationship is time. If they know that their impulsiveness will lead to their death, they will take the time to get to know each other and then decide if the other is the right person for life. Shakespeare shows in Romeo and Juliet that love is a dangerous feeling. One-sided love or non-love makes your relationship unable to bear the weight of the world. However, with impulsive love, the relationship will reach a high level and then fall apart. A careful balance is required. Through Romeo and Juliet, readers learn many lessons, including the difficulty and responsibility that come with a love-filled relationship. When love is sincere and balanced, relationships will be fruitful. Now one question remains: to love or not to love.
