Taylor OsmundsonIntroduction to Global StudiesCritical Thinking Paper February 120, 2014GlobalizationThe tag on my shirt says "Made in Taiwan", my pants were made in Venezuela, and my cell phone was made in China . Some may ask, “How do I drive a car in the United States that was assembled in Germany?” The answer is globalization. Products are made and sold all over the world due to globalization. Through modern technological advances, globalization allows countries thousands of miles apart from each other to hypothetically be neighbors. Organizations, people and companies from all over the world can collaborate on ideas and work together. This is not a new concept. For centuries, people have traveled great distances to trade products. However, with the developments offered by globalization, people can exchange goods and knowledge faster and more efficiently than ever before, with minimal effort or financial commitment. Modern communication, such as mobile phones, and new technologies, such as the Internet, are just some of the factors that are advancing globalization at a rapid pace. Globalization is growing rapidly and benefits our world in many ways, large and small. There are several reasons why globalization is affecting our world in a positive way. For example, it is enabling developing countries to succeed economically by opening them up to new jobs and opportunities and bringing more money into developing countries. These countries also have greater access to recent and updated technology and are able to take advantage of the benefits that technology offers. Those against globalization might argue that the creation of more jobs in developing countries is leading to higher unemployment. With a simple click and an occasional small shipping fee, I can have a cuckoo clock assembled in a German factory by a German worker delivered directly to my home in just a few days. This is globalization. Steger supports me in saying that globalization is a rapidly expanding phenomenon, which cannot and will not be stopped. Given the many benefits that globalization offers, this is certainly a good thing. The ability to easily communicate and collaborate with businesses and organizations around the world has led and will continue to lead developing countries in the right direction, towards financial and economic stability. Competition in the global market will push the emergence of new and innovative ideas and keep prices at a reasonable and stable pace. More importantly, the world has more choices as globalization advances, and everyone loves choices.
