Topic > Embracing Cultures: The Chinese and the Scots

There are billions of people in the world and each of us is different in many ways. We all have an event that symbolizes our culture in some way. The United States celebrates the 4th of July as a special event to celebrate America's independence from the British. The events that unfold represent some form of freedom and independence. Without these celebrations the world we live in would be different; we would not know our history and why we celebrate these events. This is one way we can learn about who we are as a culture and celebrate the progress we have made. The Chinese and Scots also celebrate special events that symbolize their culture. The Chinese hold many different cultural events, but a special one is the Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival. The Scottish event also serves to celebrate and remember the history of its people. The name of the event is Up Helly Aa also known as Fire Festival. Every culture has different events that teach people about the past and not to forget how far it has come. The Chinese have a cultural event that I have always wanted to experience; Since I don't have the time or money to fly to China, I watched it on YouTube. Their event is called Chinese New Year. During this time they celebrate the New Year of their calendar and it is a week-long celebration. While we are celebrating everyone is fixated on the party. Businesses close to celebrate the new year by offering sacrifices to the gods and lighting fireworks to scare away evil spirits. While researching different events, I also came across another interesting event that Scots organize every year. The name of this event is Up Helly Aa Fire Festival. The Up Helly Aa Fire Festival is an event in Scotland, where...... middle of paper......it's fun to do.Works CitedChinese New Year. (n.d.). History.com.
