Over the years, there have been numerous controversies surrounding orcas held in captivity. People wonder whether this practice is safe for the whales and the farmers around them. Keeping orcas in captivity should be banned, because keeping them in captivity makes them aggressive towards employees, causes various health problems and is painful for the whales. Over the past decade there have been numerous attacks by captive orcas. However, studies of wild killer whales show that “there is no record in history of serious attacks by wild killer whales on humans” (Kirby). This suggests that captivity is a major aggravating factor contributing to orca attacks.
