It also analyzes the significance and influence of World War I on The Sun Also Rises. The Sun Also Rises is Hemingway's first major literary work. It is a story about the lives of a number of Americans living in Europe after the First World War. An American expatriate and World War I journalist, Jake Barnes, narrates the plot of the novel. The themes described by Hemingway in this novel include the futility of the "lost generation", male insecurity, communication breakdown, excessive alcohol consumption, and false friendships.
