PurposeHinds believe that the purpose of their life is to achieve good karma, follow laws and be a good person as they feel that they will be rewarded in their next life. They want to act in dharma, that is, act rightly or appropriately, by doing so they will gain positive karma since acting in accordance with their dharma earns them positive karma. Their next life will be the result of the moral value of their actions and the person they were in their previous life. There are four main castes and one in which they consider outcastes. The four main castes are the Brahmins, the next is the Kshatriyas, the third is the Vaishyas and the fourth is the Shudras. The outcasts belong to the group called Dalits. Each caste has a purpose in life, Brahmins are considered the priestly caste where they teach the Vedas and must "sacrifice for others and receive alms" (Institutes of Vishnu 5-10, p. 44). Kshatriyas are considered the warriors or ruler caste, they have constant practice in battles and must protect the world from harm. The Vaishyas are supposed to be merchants and farmers, they take care of livestock, "they engage in agriculture, raise cows, trade, lend money at interest and grow seeds" (Institutes of Vishnu 5-10, p. 44) . The Shudras are the manual workers who according to the Institutes of Vishnu under the Four Castes, have to serve the twice-born men who have to sacrifice themselves and study the Vedas, the Shudras also engage in all the different tasks of craftsmanship (5-10, page 44).
