In 2008, the number of homeschooling children was over 1.5 million in America Currently, the number of homeschooling children in America exceeds two million. This number is increasing and has gone from 7% of children in America being homeschooled to 15%. Homeschooling was frowned upon by society, because the public said that homeschooled children were not developing the social skills they would have acquired in public schools due to the lack of interaction with peers. Furthermore, it was believed that their education would be lacking if they did not have a professional teacher. In fact, they develop the necessary social skills, because their parents accompany them and many are part of homeschooling groups. Some of these children travel more and meet new people. Homeschooled students are often stereotyped as antisocial and awkward because they don't get the same kind of interaction with other students their age as public or private school students do. In reality, homeschooled students get as much social interaction as children who attend regular schools. Homeschooled children participate in many activities outside the home. These children participate in things like: political outreach, boys and girls clubs, scouting, 4-H, church, and many other things. Some research has also been done
