It can be anywhere in the United States or anywhere in the world. In 2010, when Haiti had a tragic earthquake that killed nearly 230,000 people and injured about 300,000. The United States sent 2,000 Marines to help clean up and aid all those affected. There were also 19 helicopters with supplies and everything needed to help Haiti. Additionally, when Hurricane Katrina hit in August 2005, 10,000 National Guardsmen were sent to the Gulf Coast to help all those affected. In 12 hours they saved 9,000 people from the flood. The levees in New Orleans were not functioning properly, many National Guard personnel risked their lives by going out into the flood water to save those caught in the flood. By the time October 11 arrived, there were no more floodwaters in New Orleans. “As the response to Katrina demonstrates, even while fighting two wars, the U.S. Army is ready and able to assist Americans in times of catastrophe,” said Roberta Berthelot, U.S. Army Military History Institute/Army Heritage Education
