IntroductionProbation and parole are the main components of correctional systems. The correctional system decides whether a convicted criminal will be approved for parole. The convicted felon may be released from prison and be on probation. If the criminal returns to society or his parole can be revoked and he remains in prison until he can reapply for parole or finish his sentence. These are the elements that help society and ex-prisoners to coexist without repercussions. The correctional system offers the offender the opportunity to apply for parole. Then the parole board makes the decision to approve or revoke the offender's application based on his overall behavior according to; their mental state, whether they have caused harm to other inmates or guards, verbal abuse, crimes, and any remorse for the crime they committed. Probation happens after parole, it is there for them to get help and to reintegrate into society by setting goals. These goals must be completed on your own, such as finding a job, going to work on time, going back to school and earning a college degree, trying to reconnect with family members and their children, going to alcohol or drug counseling to an addiction, and maintain a clean image and distance themselves from the bad influences that led them to make bad decisions and landed them in prison. Parole is the first step for offenders who want a second chance at freedom. Offenders have to apply and explain why they should be granted parole, but some actually don't consider it. The parole board really analyzes every single application and applicant. The parole board looks from their childhood to the crime they committed... at the heart of the paper... of America's correctional system. It won't be perfect, although we need to change many things for an offender to make it back into society and help him move on from his previous lifestyle. Even though we are a country and a society, we have the right laws so that criminals cannot easily get out of prison. As for probation and parole, there are offenders who manage to reintegrate into society. There are some that break the rules based on how often they are seen by their probation officer or if the parolee even wants to complete their goals and change. There are some who feel remorse for their crimes and others who don't even care. These two components of this system rely more on the roles of offenders, but laws developed by several countries contribute to these flawed methods of our correctional system.
