Most students are always struggling in the education system, struggling every day to get a higher GPA and hoping to have a better life in the future. However, is a good grade in your studies really crucial to achieving a better life? How does education influence life? “The History Boys” by Alan Bennett and “3 Idiots” by Abhijat Joshi show similar problems in the story. Hector in The History Boys and Rancho in Three Idiots both suggest that the purpose of education is learning for life, it should not be exam oriented, and that perseverance aids success in life. This article will use characterization to compare ''The History Boys'' and ''3 Idiots'' with the theme of the relationship between education and the meaning of life, and will be illustrated within the framework of psychoanalysis. First, both Hector and Rancho's attitude towards education is learning for life. In ''The History Boys,'' when Hector argues with Irwin on the topic of education, Hector says: “And what happens after the exam? Life goes on.”(Bennett 49). Hector thinks exam is just a learning process, our life is not just a purpose in exams, after exam life continues. Additionally, Hector told the kids, “Take it, feel it, and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, someday. Pass it to the kids. This is the game I wanted you to learn. Pass it to me." He always says to pass it on, he hopes that kids can enjoy life through literature and can teach the next generation to inherit literature. The knowledge learned must be useful in life. In “3 Idiots”, Rancho can use the knowledge learned in school to apply them in daily life. Mona, the pregnant woman, cannot go to the hospital because of the heavy rain. Therefore, Rancho turns a vacuum cleaner into a vacuum cleaner... middle of paper... and your life will become meaningless.After graduation, Rancho went into hiding.His friends do not give up on finding him and wanting to thank him to inspire them first.The valid point in the education of Rancho and Hector is to gain the respect of others and influence the lives of others .Hector and Rancho are perseverance towards education, they aim to learn for life and believe in education not just to get a high grade. If you study what you truly loved and have enthusiasm, you will achieve success and your life will have meaning. Additionally, you will gain the respect of others. Education is not just an exam, education has a great influence on a person's life and future. No matter you are a teacher or student, understand yourself, pursue your dreams, persevere what you believed in education to find your life full of meaning. Education is just a learning process, life goes on.
