Topic > Analysis of the Character of Homer's Heroes and Aeneas - 744

Two days later Aeneas joins his Trojan warriors with the help of both Arcadian and Etruscan allies. The next day a bloody battle takes place with the death of Pallas and other soldiers from both sides. A truce is agreed for 12 days to bury and mourn the loss of fallen comrades, but is interrupted only 3 days following a battle which leads to the death of Queen Camilla who had allied herself with Turnus. Turnus proposes that he and Aeneas fight one-on-one -one for Lavinia and ruler of the kingdom. Although Aeneas accepts, Juturna, who is Turnus' sister, provokes an Italian soldier to throw a spear at the Trojans, which follows in another battle. Both Aeneas and Turnus clash as Aeneas wounds him with his trusty spear. Turnus begs the Trojans for mercy; as Aeneas considers this, he sees Turnus wearing the belt of the recently deceased Pallas. Aeneas is enraged with anger and pierces Turnus with his sword, winning the battle. Aeneas leads the Trojans very well with the help of his gods. I think he's a far better heroic character than the one in Homer's epics, thanks to the fact that he never holds back and never disguises himself. Throughout the Aeneid, Aeneas is seen as a sensitive and compassionate man who will help and fight for a better man. His sympathy that he shows towards his people and his allies proves this to be true
