They love them and challenge them just like Titania did with Oberon and try to protect them. This is what Hermia was doing when Lysander was trying to fight Demetrius by saying "Lysander where does all this tend" (Shakespeare act 3 scene 2). Even though Lysander treated Hermia badly, she still tried to protect him when he didn't deserve her kindness and in doing so prevented him from getting himself killed. These men could not function without these women in their lives, they caused chaos and almost bloodshed because they were without the women they loved. They don't know how to be alone and when they are there they just look for a woman because that's what they need. Theseus was completely fine throughout the play because he had Hippolyta by his side. They were getting married and he couldn't have been happier to have a wife. He never caused chaos or problems, he was actually more compassionate because of his happiness with his wife. When Theseus found out that Lysander and Hermia were going to flee to escape the laws of Athens, he was not angry and put the matter aside. He even allowed them to marry him on his wedding day "Egeus, I will overcome your will for in the temple soon and with us these couples will be eternally united" (Shakespeare act 4 scene 1). He could have killed or banished them all but instead he was just and compassionate because he was with his wife
