In the 19th century, the Industrial Revolution brought wealth and power to Britain. Many changes have occurred in Britain, politically, socially and economically. New inventions were created and mechanized factories were built which helped the country expand as a whole. Many argue that this change has had an impact on the economy and social life of individuals living in Europe. Many people wrote in favor of the change, some for and some against. One of the main disputes was between Dr. Andrew and Friederich Engels, who supported their opinion through writing. In my opinion, I believe there are more advantages than disadvantages resulting from the industrial revolution, such as how economic life moved from villages to cities and better transportation, communications and mechanized goods improved the lives of many individuals. many factories opened for business and gave opportunities to many workers, including children. This was an advantage for those who lived in the rural part of the territory and agriculture was becoming a difficult job to manage, due to the changing soil and climate. Some factories that opened their doors for the poor to work were the cotton factories and the iron factories. The use of machines made the work easier, as it was a mixture of machinery and manual labor. Dr. Andrew Ure believed this to be true. He said the use of machines made it easier for workers to get the job done. “it has been said, for example, that the steam engine now drives the power looms with such speed as to strain the weavers who accompany them at the same rapid pace” (Ure, 456). He introduced many new machines that made it easier for those who had difficulty to survive. The poor were given the opportunity to work, earn money and move from rural areas to cities. Their working conditions were not the best, but they still managed to survive. They had the opportunity to contribute to this successful industry and make their children's future easier. True, the Industrial Revolution elevated Britain on the map, but it diminished the happiness of its people. I still side with Dr. Andrew Ure when I say that the industrial revolution had its advantages and disadvantages, but the Libra scale leans more towards the advantages side.
