However, this does not mean that gender inequalities no longer exist between the two genders, the pay gap between men and women is one of the largest gender inequalities seen today . According to an article “Explaining the Pay Disparity Between Women and Men in Similar Jobs,” the authors state that “equal pay outweighs health care, family and medical leave, pensions, and Social Security for women. more important legislative issues” (Hessaramiri, Kleiner 3). People want something to be done about this injustice and hope that the government will intervene. The Equal Pay Act is one such measure put in place to equalize the paychecks of employees in the same profession, regardless of gender. After forty years, however, the Equal Pay Act has done little to prevent the pay gap from persisting. Hessaramiri and Kleiner inform us that, “According to the Monthly Labor Review, women's weekly earnings were lower than men's for full-time employees in all major occupational categories” (4). In most cases these employees suffering from the pay gap don't even realize they are suffering from it
